Her surprise eighth album, Folklore, lent comfort to many of us during the lonely blue summer of 2020, full of the singer’s signature vivid storytelling making a comeback through melancholic tunes acceptable to the average indie listener. Fans and industry insiders alike were stunned by the suddenness of the album’s release, but little did they know that it was only a taste of what was to come—less than six months later, Swift announced that she was releasing a “sister record” to Folklore, another album recorded during quarantine and titled Evermore.
